Track the Plows
Wondering where that snowplow is as wintery precipitation falls? You can find out on Anne Arundel County’s new tracking system.
A new Automated Vehicle Location system automatically determines and transmits the location of the county’s 74 plows and 250-plus contracted plow trucks. Department of Public Works reviews the data to monitor road conditions and the effectiveness of plowing strategies.

“This technology will help motorists avoid dangerous situations by providing real-time road condition information … enhancing employee safety, improving our response times, and managing our resources,” said County Executive Steuart Pittman.
The Maryland Dept. of Transportation also monitors state highway administration vehicles at work as they clear the roads. Download the STORM app to track crews as they pre-treat roads with brine: www.roads.maryland.gov.
