Wendi Winter’s PR Bazaar Donates $2,690 to Her Foundation

Nowadays, we all know the name Wendi Winters. The woman who bore that name was the hero who threw herself — and her recycling bin — at the shooter who burst into the Capital-Gazette newspaper determined to kill.

In that moment, she was dying as she lived, for when a thing needed doing, Wendi was the woman to do it.

From 2003 to 2018, Wendi saw to it that people who wanted to get their stories into the news had the training they needed to succeed. Her annual April PR Bazaars at the Annapolis Unitarian Universalist Church introduced media-seekers to media gatekeepers.

Wendi did not live to organize the 16th annual PR Bazaar, so family, friends and colleagues took on the job. On June 1 at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, a capacity crowd of 150 met and mingled with 15 media and public relations pros. Print, radio, TV and online journalists plus publicists were the panelists at this speed dating-like event for local non-profits and small businesses.

Taking on a special purpose this year, the bazaar also raised $2,690 for the new Wendi Winters Memorial Foundation to support local journalism.
