Charlotte Hall Vets Take a Fishing Trip
The Lothian Ruritan Club held its annual Take A Veteran Fishing trip on August 15. The club arranged for three charter boats to take 12 veterans who have served in the U.S. armed forces and currently reside at the Charlotte Hall Veteran Home for a three-hour fishing trip. The day began with an Anne Arundel County police car escort from Veterans Home to Skippers Pier restaurant. The Deale Fire House flew an American Flag from a ladder truck and sounded the siren as the bus passed the station.
The Charlotte Hall bus arrived at 8:15am and the veterans were provided with breakfast sandwiches and coffee on the pier. The veterans and their escorts boarded the boats at 9am and returned to Skippers Pier around noon for lunch. The fish caught were cleaned and packaged for the veterans to take back to the Veterans Home to cook and share with others.

Bravo to Twin Beach Players and its Kid Playwrights
Congratulations to the Twin Beach Players on their successful Kid’s Playwright Festival! For the past 14 years, the North Beach-based community theater has produced this annual competition that results in thought-provoking entertainment written and performed by — and sometimes directed by — kids.
This year’s six plays ran the gamut from tackling the real-life issue of addiction in Life Is Hard, Exhale by Paige Plater … to the fantasy of Emma Dehner’s The Magic Mirror. Jasmine Heminger’s And They Were Roommates and Carsyn Baker’s Hidden Knowledge emphasized the importance of communication and friendship. Cupid Has Bad Aim by Alaina Triantafilledes and Summer08 by Riley Ferver were reflective pieces with broad appeal. Each piece was beautifully acted by Twin Beach Players Youth Troupe.
For the past four years, the Youth Troupe has been under the direction of Sherry Lehnen, a parent volunteer who has brought energy and passion to KPF. Her tremendous contributions will be missed, but no doubt the show will go on as Twin Beach Players will continue to grow the talent of the next generation.
