Recalling an Extraordinary Man

Re: Valedictory: The Bay Gardener: Aug. 9; www.bayweekly.com/node/44496

All That and more, Life didn’t get past Frank Gouin: Aug. 9; www.bayweekly.com/node/44506

As an avid gardener and advocate for the environment, I was sad to read of Dr. Frank Gouin’s passing earlier this month. He left an enviable legacy of accomplishments in the horticulture industry and impressive contributions to the agriculture community. I was unaware of his many community efforts and numerous interests and talents such as making musical instruments and restoring tractors, cars, etc. Quite an extraordinary man!

Maryland has lost a true man of purpose, and I send my sincere condolences to you as his good friend and to the entire Bay Weekly readership. I know the loss is great, but through the years, he generously shared his enormous knowledge with students, friends, colleagues and fellow gardeners and so he lives on.

My thoughts are with his family and all who shared in his rich life. I know that all the wonderful memories of him will sustain everyone in these difficult times.

Led by Chesapeake Beach Water Park’s Aquatics Manager Kristen Bunn, the 2018 team of supervisors, head guards and lifeguards have once again proven that safety is always the park’s No. 1 priority.

This summer we have received a perfect season of EXCEEDS on all three of our Unannounced Aquatic Facility Operational Safety audits administered by Jeff Ellis & Associates.

Chesapeake Beach Water Park is one of 600 clients audited on a regular basis. These 600 locations employ 400,000 lifeguards internationally. All are top performers and represent the finest and safest aquatic facilities in the world. So it is of note that Chesapeake Beach Water Park performs so well as to earn International Safety top awards. Only the top 10 percent in the world receive a Platinum International Aquatic Safety Award each year.

This year Chesapeake Beach Water Park receives our third International Platinum Safety Award.

Chesapeake Beach Water Park has been a prime-time family destination for splish-splashin’ fun for over two decades and a highlight of many people’s summer from near and far. One of the main reasons we’ve had such success is a team of over 80 employees who work tirelessly to keep our guests safe so that their only responsibility is to enjoy themselves.
